Google has begun the testing of Android 16 QPR2, a major update that will be primarily for the Pixel Launcher, probably consisting of visual refinements and interface tweaks . Along with the change of savior bar's previous color palette, the update is changing icons to make them more easily recognizable.
The search bar is given a shade of Dynamic Color that is lighter in darkness mode making it easier to spot and the all other pill-shaped background is made darker . The icons of the microphone, Google Lens, and AI Mode are now white so that they can be seen better.
Light mode is also subject to changes. The search bar's background is now brighter and it is no more having the previous muted pastel tones . The respective icons are now black offering a better contrast and visibility on the home screen.
Changes have been made to the top app grid as well. The buttons for the microphone, Lens, and AI Mode have become bigger and thus a more balanced appearance is given to the overall look and at the same time, usability is improved.
Android 16 QPR2 is going to allow both Themed icons for all the apps and, besides the standard circle, will offer four new icon shape options. The update is still in the testing phase and has not received the November 2025 security patch yet . It is expected that the broader rollout will happen in the next month.
